The Stevee Cardigan Crochet Pattern is an old favourite. Knowing Spring is (hopefully) just around the corner had me dreaming of less layers, more sunshine, and bright, fun colours.
Stevee Cardigan Crochet Pattern
This redesign includes the addition of some super cute cuffs on the sleeves. Although I loved the look of the original design a few years ago, once I had made the pattern in the new yarn I felt like it looked unfinished. I played around with a couple different options but felt like a simple ribbed cuff was all it really needed.
The biggest reason I felt this design needed a refresh, was because the yarn I had originally used had since been discontinued.
The yarn below was Comfy Cotton Sport by Knit Picks. This yarn was fantastic (and is still available in fingering and worsted weights), but I like to update patterns as I’m able to if the yarn is no longer an option.

THE YARN
Once again, a HUGE shoutout to my friends over at WeCrochet for providing the yarn to make the Stevee Cardigan crochet pattern!
I really debated if I wanted to change the yarn fibre from the original. The 100% cotton was so nice and soft, but I thought that this could be a great opportunity to show what the design looks like in wool instead!. Wool of the Andes Sport yarn is available at WeCrochet and comes in 35 gorgeous colors. I made the child size one in Papaya Heather with a Dove Heather band on the bottom. For the ladies size, I am working away using Claret Heather, and will update this blog post with photos once I’m done! This is a sport weight #2 yarn in 100% Peruvian Highland Wool. Wool of the Andes is also available in Worsted, Tweeds, Bulky, and Roving.
But, Pam!!! Why would you want to wear wool in the Spring?
Glad you asked.
Peruvian wool is fantastic for wearables for several reasons. It’s soft, absorbs moisture, resists odor, retains its shape, offer some UV protection, and helps control body temperature, keeping you warm in the winter, and cool in the summer.
Pretty awesome, right!?
YARN SUBSTITUTIONS
Paragon Sport (50% Fine Merino Wool, 25% Baby Alpaca, 25% Mulberry Silk) or Galileo (50% Merino Wool, 50% Viscose from Bamboo), or Andean Treasure (100% baby alpaca) would make great substitutions if Wool of the Andes isn’t for you.
However, if you are looking for an allergy-friendly option, I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend checking out Brava Sport (super affordable acrylic), Shine Sport (60% pima cotton, 40% natural beech wood fibre), or Lion Brand’s Oh Baby Organic (another gorgeous cotton).
Any of these options, or similar, would be great when making the Stevee Cardigan crochet pattern.
STYLE OPTIONS
I mentioned above that the original Stevee Cardigan crochet pattern didn’t have the ribbed cuff sleeves as shown in the first photo. Instead it had plain opening that I had lined with fringe. Both sets of instructions are included below, so you can choose whichever arm opening works best for you!

EXPERIENCE LEVEL

GAUGE
6 dc groups x 9 rows = 4″x4”
1: Ch 21, sc in 2nd ch and across. (20)
2: Ch3 (counts as dc), turn, sk 1 st, 3dc in next, *sk 2 sts, 3dc in next, repeat from * across, sk 1 st, dc in last. (20)
3: Ch1, turn, sc, sk 1 st, (sc, ch2, sc) in next, *sk 2 sts, (sc, ch2, sc) in next, repeat from * across, sk 1 st, sc in last. (14)
4: Ch3 (counts as dc), turn, 3dc in each ch2 space, dc in last. (20)
Repeat Rows 3 and 4 (3) more times.
Measure the 18 dc (6 dc groups) in the middle of your swatch. It should be 4″. Measure from rows 2-9. That should also measure 4″. Gauge height isn’t critical to the success of your project since most of it is done by measurement and not stitch count.
SPECIAL PATTERN NOTES
Sample shown is size Child Small and the model wears a child size 6.
This pattern starts with the Back Panel from the Neck to the Arm Hole. Next we will make the Front Right Panel from Neck to Arm Hole. Then the Front Left Panel to the Arm Hole. Afterwards we connect the front panels to the back panel before continuing in one piece to the desired length. Lastly we work on the optional cuffs and fringe.
Beginning ch1 does not count as a stitch throughout.
Ch3 counts as a dc throughout, do not dc in the same st as the ch3.
