The Sunday Sweater Child Sizes 2-10 crochet pattern has finally hit the blog! Back in mid-October I released the Ladies Sizes XS-5X and I was so thrilled with the response to the pattern update. Both patterns were originally designed in 2016 and they were so desperate for a bit of a redo. Not only have they been made in a more suitable yarn, but I have added some cute touches, like the turtleneck and ribbed trims.
Sunday Sweater Crochet Pattern
Although I mentioned this in the other blog post, it bears repeating. Yarn choice is soooooo important!!!
The yarn I had used originally used (Loops and Threads Charisma) didn’t hold up well over time. The sweaters I made didn’t wash and wear well, and ended up looking a bit ragged after the first couple of times being washed. I ended up tossing them before long and was so sad.
Garments take some time to make so you want to make sure they stick around awhile!

THE YARN
First, a HUGE shoutout to my friends over at WeCrochet for providing the yarn to make the Sunday Sweater Child Sizes crochet pattern!
For this version of the Sunday Sweater I used Biggo yarn in the color Pinot Heather. This yarn is available at WeCrochet and comes in 19 colors. I made the ladies size one in Autumn Heather! This is a bulky weight #5 yarn in a 50% Superwash Merino Wool, 50% Nylon blend.
Why a nylon blend, you ask? Well, nylon adds strength, flexibility, and movement to wool. The moisture-wicking capabilities of nylon, combined with the anti-microbial properties of wool, make this a power couple in the fibre world!
Nylon increases the wrinkle resistance of your garments while holding up its shape. When you pair it with the superwash merino in Biggo, you have a yarn that can be machine washed, and thrown on a low heat in the dryer.
Needless to say, Biggo has stolen my heart.
YARN SUBSTITUTIONS
Wonderfluff (70% Baby Alpaca , 7% Merino Wool , 23% Nylon) or Swish Bulky (100% Fine Superwash Merino) would make great substitutions if Biggo isn’t for you. Both of these yarns are incredibly soft and feel amazing against the skin.
However, if you are looking for an allergy-friendly option, I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend checking out Brava Bulky (super affordable acrylic), Billow (100% pima cotton), or Lion Brand’s Hue and Me (another gorgeous acrylic).
Any of these options, or similar, would be great when making the Sunday Sweater Child Sizes crochet pattern.
STYLE OPTIONS
I mentioned above that the original Sunday Sweater child sizes (or ladies) didn’t have the cowl neck as shown in the first photo. Instead it had both the simple ribbed collar shown below, or a pretty rolled collar. All three sets of instructions are included below, so you can choose whichever neckline works best for you!
Side note: Look how little my son was in this photo! He’s now almost as tall as I am!

SPECIAL PATTERN NOTES
The Sunday Sweater crochet pattern is made from the top down. Sleeves are crocheted onto the sweater in a raglan style. Cowl, ribbed, or rolled collar are crocheted directly on to the sweater.
Beginning chains do not count as a stitch throughout.
The stitch counts at the end of each row will be in numerical order by size. (2, 4, 6, 8, 10)
Yarns similar in fiber content and weight can be substituted. See Yarn Substitution section above for suggestions.
Sample shown is made in size 6, and has a black t-shirt layered underneath.
