The Elmview Beanie crochet pattern was designed for the Scarf of the Month Club. Normally, this time of year isn’t when I design a beanie pattern. I’m usually too busy dreaming of hot weather to think of the cold.
However, I fell in love with this stitch pattern. The little puff stitches in the diagonal pattern makes me so happy! So, here it is! Even if it isn’t hat weather where you are, it’s never too early to start stocking up for Fall.
Scarf (and Hat!) of the Month Club
I am so happy to announce that I have been invited to participate in the annual Scarf of the Month Club. Each year Rhondda from Oombawka Design, and Amy from The Stitchin’ Mommy host this event. Make sure to also get Rhondda’s A Peaceful Moment Slouch Hat, and Amy’s Spring Tranquility Messy Bun Hat crochet pattern! You can also read this Intro Post for more details, as well as find a list of all the previous designs.
Two things to note that are different this year!
Firstly, you will get to download each design for 24 hours only!
Secondly, the week following the Scarf of the Month, each designer will also be releasing a co-ordinating Hat of the Month! Last week I shared the Elmview Shawl crochet pattern with you and was really touched by how much you all liked it!
I’m really excited to share the Elmview Beanie crochet pattern with you! You can also check out last year’s Scarf of the Month design, the gorgeously drape-y Lansdowne Cowl.
The Design
This Elmview Beanie crochet pattern was written from the bottom band up. Just like the matching Shawl, this design features a fun diagonal puff stitch pattern!
The body of the pattern is a two row repeat. It couldn’t be easier to memorize! Before you know it you can zoom through a beanie in no time!
The Yarn
For the sample shown above, I wanted to work with what I already had in my stash. So, I grabbed a hank of Furls Whims Merino DK.
If you haven’t tried Whims Merino yet, it is so much fun!
Whims Merino is a DK weight 50/50 blend of fine superwash merino + nylon. Each hank offers 100g (3.5oz), 94yds(180m) of silky-smooth deliciousness.
Currently available in colours purple, red, blue, teal, pink, mustard, light grey, charcoal, and undyed. The best part of this yarn? It’s Z-Twist. Want to know the benefit to crocheters? Read Furls’ explaination HERE.

Special Pattern Notes
Both models are wearing the Adult size beanie. My daughter really loves to ham it up for the camera and said she would do a super good job. Like I could possibly say no! And she was right, haha!
The dark grey beanie was made using Lion Brand Heartland. I used the same hook as the DK weight beanie. The grey intentionally came out slightly larger for a friend who prefers a slouchy hat. It was perfect for her!
This pattern is worked from the bottom band up.
Beginning chains do not count as a stitch throughout.
Although I worked this design in 1 solid color, this pattern is gradient/cake yarn friendly.
