Last week I popped in to my local Michaels to grab… something. I honestly can’t even remember what I needed. It could have something to do with the fact that I was completely distracted by this new yarn! Loops and Threads Charisma is always one of my favorites when the weather starts to cool. I have used it for several designs and always love when some new twist is added to the line. So when I spied the new Tweed Hues line, skeins were leaping into my basket and my hook went to work on the new Lansdowne Toque crochet pattern!
I knew right away I wanted to use the Lansdowne Stitch pattern. I loved it in the Basket, and instantly thought to use it for a hat. One thing I have learned is that colorful or interesting yarn pairs best with simple stitch patterns. I enjoy when either the stitch pattern OR the yarn is the star of the show. No need to compete for attention. It’s might also be why I gravitate towards more earthy and neutral colors. My eyes truly love the calming nature of that type of palette. You can most definitely get a feel for my style over on my Instagram Feed.

16: Lining up the last Row worked to Row 13, sc in the BLO of both Rows to join the Brim. Fasten off and weave in all ends.

Between round 1 and round 2 you have an instruction that says “starting in round 2 and continuing throughout the body of the toque, work every 2nd hdc in the 3rd loop only.” I’m new at reading patterns and am not sure what this means. Can you explain please? The toque is beautiful and I’d love to make it.
Hi Chris 🙂
Throughout the rest of the Body you will continue to hdc around. Just make sure that every second hdc is worked in the 3rd loop.
Does “every 2nd hdc” mean every other one or the 2nd one when you’re putting 2 hdc in a stitch?
I just released a new tutorial to help clarify this: https://www.sincerelypam.com/lansdowne-toque-stitch-tutorial/
Does “every 2nd hdc” mean every other one? Or does it mean the second on a cluster of 2hdc in one stitch?
I just released a new tutorial to help clarify this: https://www.sincerelypam.com/lansdowne-toque-stitch-tutorial/
When you say second hdc, do you mean individual stitches or the stitch being worked in? For instance, in round 3, where you hdc in the first stitch and have 2 hdc in the second stitch, am I working in the back loop for both hdc in the second stitch or just one? Also I am working the back loop on the top of the chain or the back loop behind the stitch? I have watched several videos on working in the back loop and they seem to be done in different ways. I am sorry if these questions are tedious but I am new to crochet and have tried working this hat in a couple different ways and am not getting the nice pattern you are showing but I am determined to figure it out! Thanks for any help you can provide.

I’m also a little confused. Just to be clear, is the increasing hdc worked in the third loop, or every other hdc?
For example, is the pattern for round 2:
a) hdc, 2hdc (second of this increase in 3rd loop), etc.
or
b) hdc, 2hdc (first of this increase in 3rd loop), hdc in 3rd loop, 2hdc (second of this increase in 3rd loop), etc
So excited to get started on this project. I’m making these hats for my three teen and adult children and my oldest daughter’s boyfriend for Christmas. I have a massive yarn stash so I’m looking forward to using some of it before it gets too large and falls through my closet floor onto my son’s bed. LOL
Oh my goodness, that is too funny! We wouldn’t want that ?
Somewhat confused?? I understand that every 2nd hdc is worked in the 3rd loop but when I get to round 3 I get lost. I hdc in first stitch, then hdc in 3rd loop but is both worked in the 3rd loop?
I just released a new tutorial to help clarify this: https://www.sincerelypam.com/lansdowne-toque-stitch-tutorial/
Sorry, I’m still a bit confused. Novice here. Do you mean every second half double crochet, which is the second half double crochet at the beginning of a new row you grab the 3rd loop? Or is it every other half double crochet you grab the 3rd loop throughout the row?
Is it just one time the 2nd stitch in a row you grab 3rd loop or half double crochet, then half double crochet in 3rd loop throughout the row.
Thank you so much for your help. I love the design and I want to try it. I hope my explanation makes sense. Thanks again

I’ve started this but I’m not understanding a few things. Is the 2nd hdc for the third loop actually every other hdc? If so, how do I increase doing the third loop? I’ve got doing the third loop alone or as the 2nd stitch in an increase but how do I do it if I need to do the third loop first than a regular hdc in the same stitch? I love the look of this pattern & would like for mine to look the same! Thanks!

Hello! Loving this pattern so far but I am confused about the number 10 instructions. I am also new to reading patterns and I am confused as to where the numbers (49, 55, 57, 61, 65, 69) come from. Is it just repeating the count for whatever the last row you did was and not joining?
Hi Courtney!
This is the stitch count in numerical order. So the 6 month size would have a stitch count of 49 at the end of that round.
I really want to make this hat but for some reason it is really confusing me. I know where the 3rd loop of the HDC is so that is not the problem. Are you meaning we are to work the 2nd HDC all the way around the round, or just the 2nd HDC only of each round? Is there by any chance a video for this pattern? Thanks for your help.

Hi. Thanks for the pattern. There is a mistake- on the brimmed portion of the hat, step 14 is supposed to say to single crochet in the 5 stitches, not slip stitch in those stitches.
