Lucky Penny Poncho Ladies Sizes | Free Crochet Pattern

Last month I released the Lucky Penny Poncho in Child Sizes and the number one response I got was “Do you have this in Adult sizes too? I need to make one for myself”! Well, ask and you shall recieve. The Lucky Penny Poncho ladies sizes are now here, and I hope you love this warm and squishy design as much as I do.

Materials

Yarn: Worsted Weight #4. Sample made using Lion Brand Mandala Tweed. You can read my review of this yarn HERE!

Hook: I (5.5 mm). 

Tapestry Needle for weaving in ends. 

Measuring Tape.

Pattern Key

• ch: chain
• st(s): stitch(es)
• slst: slip stitch
• sc: single crochet
• hdc: half double crochet
• BLO: back loop only

Experience Level

Easy

Gauge

4”x4” = 13 sts and 16 rows in pattern repeat.

Pattern repeat is *hdc, slst, repeat from *.

Special Pattern Notes

This Poncho is worked from the bottom up, over the head, and back down in one piece. The cowl is added on at the end.

When following stitch counts, the numbers are in numerical order by size (XS-M, L-1X, 2X-5X). 

When only one stitch count is given, it is the same for all sizes.

Beginning ch1 does not count as a stitch throughout.

PATTERN INSTRUCTIONS

FRONT BOTTOM BAND

1: Ch13, sc in 2nd chain from hook and across. (12)

2: Ch1, turn, working in the BLO, sc across. (12)

Repeat 2 until you have a total of (128, 136, 144) rows. You have now completed the bottom band of the Poncho.

FRONT BODY

3: Ch1, turn to work across the unfinished edges of the bottom band. Sc in the first 12 end rows, *hdc in next, slst in next, repeat from * to last 12 end rows, sc in last 12 sts. (128, 136, 144)

4: Ch1, turn, sc in BLO of the first 12 sts, *hdc in next, slst in next, repeat from * to last 12 sts, sc in BLO of last 12 sts. (128, 136, 144)

Repeat 4 until your Poncho measures (26”, 29”, 32”) long.

NECK OPENING

5: Ch1, turn,  sc in BLO of first 12 sts, [hdc in next, slst in next] (16, 18, 20) times, ch 40, sk 40 sts, [hdc in next, slst, in next] (16, 18, 20) times, sc in BLO of last 12 sts. (128, 136, 144)

BACK BODY

6: Ch1, turn, sc in BLO of the first 12 sts, *hdc in next, slst in next, repeat from * to last 12 sts, sc in BLO of last 12 sts. (128, 136, 144)

Repeat 6 until back of Poncho measures (23”, 26”, 29”) long. You will now be working on the bottom band of the Poncho.

BACK BOTTOM BAND

7: Ch13, sc in 2nd ch from hook and across, slst to next sc on Poncho. (12 sc here and throughout) 

8: Slst in next sc, turn, working in the BLO, sk over 2 slst, sc across each sc. (12 sc)

9: Ch1, turn, working in the BLO, sc across, slst to next sc in Poncho. (12 sc)

Repeat 8 and 9 until you have worked all across the bottom of the Poncho.

Fasten off and weave in all ends.

You can end here, or continue on to make the Cowl.

COWL

Reattach yarn to the neck opening. Either on the side, or the centre of the back to keep the seam hidden.

1: Ch 41, sc in 2nd ch from hook and across, slst to next sc in Poncho. (40 sc now and throughout)

2: Slst in next sc, turn, working in the BLO, sk over 2 slst, sc across each sc.

3: Ch1, turn, working in the BLO, sc across, slst to next sc in Poncho.

Repeat 2 and 3 until you have worked all around the neck opening.

4: Lining up the last Row worked to Row 1, sc in the BLO of both Rows to join the Cowl.

Fasten off and weave in all ends. 

Fold over Cowl.
