It’s about time, am I right? I am so excited to add the Sunday Sweater Ladies XS-5X crochet pattern to the blog! This pattern was originally designed in 2016 and was desperate for an update. In the past four years I have learned a lot about yarn, and definitely have a better comprehension on what I like from a garment.
Sunday Sweater Crochet Pattern
The design was first written in sizes XS-1X. Although I had every intention of also releasing it in 2X-5X shortly after, the reality of life with an active toddler, and another in kindergarten meant that it never happened.
I also realized that the yarn I had used (Loops and Threads Charisma) didn’t hold up well over time. The sweaters I made didn’t wash and wear well, and ended up looking a bit ragged after the first couple of times through the washer.

Leap Into Fall Event
The Leap Into Fall Blog Hop event features 14 designers that are offering one pattern as a free downloadable pdf for one day only. Each pattern is either Halloween or Fall themed which is perfect for this time of year!
Although the offer of the free ad-free pdf is no longer available, you can still purchase a copy in my Ravelry, Etsy, or LoveCraft Shops, or scroll down to view the pattern here on the blog!

THE YARN
For this version of the Sunday Sweater I used Biggo yarn in the color Autumn Heather. This yarn is available at WeCrochet and comes in 19 colors. I am making a child size one for my daughter in Pinot Heather! This is a bulky weight #5 yarn in a 50% Superwash Merino Wool, 50% Nylon blend.
Why a nylon blend, you ask? Well, nylon adds strength, flexibility, and movement to wool. It enhances the moisture-wicking capabilities of nylon, combined with the anti-microbial properties of wool, make this a power couple in the fibre world!
Nylon increases the wrinkle resistance of your garments while holding up its shape. When you pair it with the superwash merino in Biggo, you have a yarn that can be machine washed, and thrown on a low heat in the dryer.
Needless to say, Biggo has stolen my heart.

YARN SUBSTITUTIONS
Wonderfluff (70% Baby Alpaca , 7% Merino Wool , 23% Nylon) or Swish Bulky (100% Fine Superwash Merino) would make great substitutions if Biggo isn’t for you. Both of these yarns are incredibly soft and feel amazing against the skin.
However, if you are looking for an allergy-friendly option, I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend checking out Brava Bulky (super affordable acrylic), Billow (100% pima cotton), or Lion Brand’s Hue and Me (another gorgeous acrylic).
Any of these options, or similar, would be great when making the Sunday Sweater crochet pattern.

STYLE OPTIONS
I mentioned above that the original Sunday Sweater didn’t have the cowl neck as shown in the first photo. Instead it had this really simple and pretty rolled collar. Both sets of instructions are included below, so you can choose whichever neckline works best for you!

MATERIALS
Yarn: Bulky Weight #5. Sample made in Biggo by WeCrochet.
See approximate yardage for individual sizes below.
Hook: I used my Furls Crochet Streamline Swirl N (9.00 mm).
- Note: I used the Cream M hook for the photos because my N is the Andromeda hook and the orange in it clashed with the yarn. Yeah, I know, I know.

Tapestry Needle for weaving in ends.
